Μια ξεχωριστή ιστορία από τις φετινές διακοπές τους στην περιοχή μοιράστηκε οικογένεια επισκεπτών, η οποία επιστρέφει σχεδόν κάθε καλοκαίρι στον Τυρό και στο Camping Τσερφός.
Η πρώτη τους γνωριμία με τον τόπο έγινε πριν από περίπου είκοσι χρόνια, όταν έμειναν για λίγες ημέρες στο κάμπινγκ και γνώρισαν τη φιλοξενία της οικογένειας Σούρσου, αλλά και τις γεύσεις της οικογενειακής ταβέρνας. Οι αναμνήσεις εκείνης της επίσκεψης τούς έφεραν ξανά στην περιοχή πριν από έξι χρόνια και, όπως αναφέρουν χαρακτηριστικά, ήταν «έρωτας με την πρώτη ματιά».
Έκτοτε επιστρέφουν σχεδόν κάθε καλοκαίρι, έχοντας δημιουργήσει στενούς δεσμούς με την οικογένεια Σούρου, τους ανθρώπους του κάμπινγκ και άλλους σταθερούς επισκέπτες.
Κατά τη φετινή, έβδομη επίσκεψή τους, οι δυνατοί άνεμοι παρέσυραν από την παραλία μια μεγάλη κίτρινη φουσκωτή πάπια, το αγαπημένο παιχνίδι της κόρης τους, Κάριν, η οποία έχει σύνδρομο Down. Η απώλειά της τη στενοχώρησε βαθιά, ενώ οι προσπάθειες να εντοπιστεί δεν είχαν αρχικά αποτέλεσμα.
Την επόμενη ημέρα, όταν άλλαξε η κατεύθυνση του ανέμου, η πάπια εντοπίστηκε με κιάλια να παρασύρεται προς το Πόρτο Χέλι. Τα κύματα, όμως, δεν επέτρεπαν την προσέγγισή της με σκάφος και η οικογένεια την παρακολουθούσε να απομακρύνεται.
Η ανατροπή ήρθε το ίδιο βράδυ. Η οικογένεια Σούρσου ενημέρωσε τους επισκέπτες ότι η πάπια είχε βρεθεί και τους μετέφερε στον Τυρό, όπου συναντήθηκαν με τον Αντιδήμαρχο Νότιας Κυνουρίας Ηλία Κόκκορη, ο οποίος τους την παρέδωσε χωρίς καμία ζημιά.
Όπως τους εξήγησαν την επόμενη ημέρα ο αντιδήμαρχος Ηλίας Κόκκορης και ο Κώστας Δουζένης στο Λιμενικό που είχε κληθεί να ελέγξει τα αντικείμενα που επέπλεαν στη θάλασσα, προκειμένου να διαπιστωθεί ότι δεν κινδύνευε κάποιος άνθρωπος.
Η φουσκωτή πάπια μεταφέρθηκε στο λιμάνι και η σχετική ανάρτηση στα κοινωνικά δίκτυα έγινε γρήγορα αντιληπτή από τους ανθρώπους του κάμπινγκ.
Η οικογένεια εκφράζει τις θερμές ευχαριστίες της προς την οικογένεια Σούσρου, τον Ηλία Κόκκορη, τον Κώστα Δουζένη και όλους όσοι συνέβαλαν ώστε η ιστορία να έχει ευτυχισμένο τέλος.
Παράλληλα, αναφέρεται με ιδιαίτερα θερμά λόγια στη φιλοξενία, στην εξυπηρέτηση, στη φυσική ομορφιά και στους ανθρώπους της περιοχής, υπογραμμίζοντας ότι στην επόμενη επίσκεψή της θα αφιερώσει περισσότερο χρόνο για να γνωρίσει τον Τυρό και τις όμορφες γωνιές του.
Μια φαινομενικά μικρή περιπέτεια μετατράπηκε τελικά σε μια ιστορία ανθρωπιάς, συνεργασίας και γνήσιας τοπικής φιλοξενίας.

Dear residents of Tiros!
I would like to share with you an unforgettable story from our holiday in your beautiful region.
Almost twenty years ago, our family’s summer travels brought us to your town for the first time. We stayed for a few days at Camping Tserfos, where we were delighted by the abundance of fish in your sea and by the wonderful way they were prepared in the Souros family tavern. Because we were in a hurry to continue our journey, we did not have the chance to truly experience everything your town had to offer. In the following years, we sometimes drove past Tiros and waved to you, but never had the opportunity to stop.
Six years ago, however, we decided to attend a performance of Aristophanes’ The Frogs at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus. When we were choosing where to spend a few days before the performance, our memories brought us back to the wonderful cuisine at Tserfos. This time we stayed longer and got to know some of the regular guests, especially our neighbours Jorge and Athina, as well as the entire Souros family. If we had to describe what happened in the simplest way, we would say: it was love at first sight. Since then, we have returned almost every summer for several days.
This year, during our seventh visit, something truly special happened. Our second daughter Pika joined us—she had last been in Tiros as a five‑year‑old girl. And for the first time, we experienced strong winds that, during the night, blew away our large yellow inflatable duck from the beach. It was our daughter Karin’s favourite toy; Karin has Down syndrome, and when she heard the morning news, she was heartbroken. Nothing could cheer her up—not the company of our dear friends, not the excellent moussaka from the tavern, not even the beautiful sunshine.
The next morning, the wind changed direction, and our neighbour Jorge spotted something out at sea. Through binoculars we recognized our duck, drifting towards Porto Kheli. The waves were too high to reach it by boat, so we could only watch helplessly as it slowly disappeared from sight.
But in the evening, a surprise awaited us. While I was tidying up before our departure, the Souros family called to me from their balcony and told me I had to go with them to Tiros immediately. Without asking why, I grabbed my clothes and jumped into their car. Their eldest son Jorge drove me—believe it or not—to a meeting with the deputy mayor of your municipality, Mr. Kokkoris Ilias. He returned our duck to me, completely undamaged. As he was in a hurry to attend a theatre performance in town, I only managed to thank him briefly, take a quick photo, and arrange to meet him the next morning for coffee at the Tserfos tavern.
The next morning, along with Mr. Kokkoris, we were also visited by municipal councillor Mr. Douzenis Kostas. They explained how the rescue operation unfolded: the coast guard had been instructed to check the objects drifting on the sea to ensure no one was in danger. They brought the duck to the harbour, and soon afterwards a post appeared on social media. Our hosts saw it, recognized the duck, and immediately took me to the person who had found it.
During our conversation, we also spoke about our deep appreciation for the kindness, hospitality, and excellent service we always experience at Camping Tserfos, about the unspoiled nature and landscape, and above all about you—the residents of this beautiful hidden gem of the Peloponnese. We realized that we had never truly explored your town. When we learned that you also have a theatre, we decided that next time we will dedicate more time to discovering the wonderful corners of your urban surroundings, not only the wild nature.
This was a truly remarkable ending to our holiday. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Souros family and to everyone we have met in your wonderful region—including Mr. Kokkoris and Mr. Douzenis.
